Quote of the Day

This Day in History

Today’s Birthday

August 24th
History Repeats Itself…Just today it was announced that the USADA will strip Lance Armstrong of his 7 Tour De France Wins and ban him from cycling for life. Today in 1989 Pete Rose was banned from baseball, he played more games and got more hits than any player in history. Lance “won” the Tour De France more times than anyone in history.

Today in 2006 Pluto was demoted to a ‘dwarf planet’ by the science community which made an international wave to support Pluto as a full fledged planet, unfortunately for the protesters Pluto is still not considered one of the planets in our solar system.

“This is US history, I see the globe right there” – Jeff Spicoli, Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Before acting and activism Sean Penn started it all by being born today in 1960.

Sean may have played the slacker in that movie, but he shares the same birthday with World Chess Champion Mikhail Moseyevich Botvinnik who has the same August 17th birthday, but in 1991. Let’s hope he’s not counting cards now that he just turned 21.

If he did get in trouble Mikhail B. since today in 1953 he could go to Narcotics Anonymous which first started in Southern California. Not so proud of that one are you Hollywood.

If you want a real adventure, instead of the La La Land nonsense than today is the day to celebrate the wild frontier with Davy Crockett who was born today in 1786.

Maybe not so interested in heading west was Marcus Garvey born today in 1887 and began the Back to Africa movement for …not African Americans?

That might not have been cool, but maybe Harry Hopkins could have helped. He was an American Diplomat born in 1890.

Time to clean this whole day in history up, luckily the first public bathhouse in NYC was erected in 1891, can’t go wrong with that.

We like to joke, but would like to seriously wish our friend Daniel Scriven a very Happy Birthday! Scrivs cleaner than New York, smarter than Spicoli, got strategy like Bottvinnik and the adventurous spirit of Davy Crockett. As for Marcus Garvey or going to a clinic, well I guess we just can’t have everything (which is the Harry Hopkins diplomatic answer in all of us).
